Application guidelines

Since ACROBATIC is a national and inter- and cross disciplinary center, there is some criteria that must be met.

Areas of support

Applications for studies within the three clinical focus areas: ”Prehabilitation and preoperative risk assessment”, “Surgical techniques and innovation”, ”Survivorship”, must address a specific study with focus on surgical oncology in relation to the overall purpose and strategy.

Funds can be sought for new and ongoing projects:

  • Salary for scientific staff (VIP): PhD Students, PostDocs, Senior Researchers allocated to WPs or NIs
  • Salary for technical administrative staff (TAP): Project Nurses, Physiotherapists, Laboratory Technicians and the like

If you have a project that meets the formal requirements and criteria for a project, please send an email to info@acrobatic.dk to inquire whether your project can be affiliated with ACROBATIC.

Formal requirements

To be considered, the application must actively involve persons and departments that were part of ACROBATIC in the initial ‘Knæk Cancer’ application from 2021, or who have subsequently been included in ACROBATIC following approval by the Management Team of ACROBATIC.

The study must involve several DMCGs and/or be national. As defined by DCCC, a national study must:

  • involve partners from East and West of ’Storebælt’,
  • preferably be anchored in the relevant DMCG’s, and
  • actively involve hospitals from at least three regions or
  • at least three regional units and/or universities.

A study that is not national according to the definition from DCCC may be considered if there is a substantiated description of how and when the study will have the potential to become national or the study deals with rare cancers where only 1-2 treatment sites are available. The latter must be documented. All studies must comply with the ethical guidelines of Danish Cancer Society.

Evaluation

The Executive Committee of ACROBATIC reviews and prioritizes received applications, and based on a motivated recommendation, allocates the funds. The recommendations and final decision are submitted to the Center of Knowledge for information.

The Executive Committee can select a conditional recommendation specifying specific requirements. The applicant must fulfill these within 1 month after receiving information hereof. Otherwise, the recommendation lapses.

Research projects are prioritized based on scientific value, clinical relevance, feasibility, expected benefit of the patient and the degree of national and international collaboration.

The following will be included in the assessment of the individual application:

  • The scope of national collaboration
  • International collaboration
  • Extent of interdisciplinary collaboration, including NIs and DMCGs
  • Statistical strength
  • Practical feasibility
  • Patient involvement
  • Monitoring the patients’ quality of life
  • Attention to possible social inequality
  • Use of smart data capture
  • Cost-effectiveness assessment
  • Perspectives
  • Clinical implementation plan

The diversity of ACROBATIC will be included in the overall assessment, aiming for a balanced distribution between DMCGs, CFAs, and NIs.
