National studies – is it possible?
Better use of databases and legal challenges in national projects were some of the topics debated at ACROBATIC’s second scientific gathering.
ACROBATIC’s Center of Knowledge held its second scientific gathering “National studies – is it possible?” at Hotel Nyborg Strand on October 26th, 2022. To help answer the question “National studies – is it possible”, Jens Winther Jensen from RKKP and Kim Brixen from OUH, among others, were invited to talk about the use of data from our databases and how to help ourselves with legal matters, respectively.
Jens Winther Jensen, Director RKKP, gave a talk on how to use the databases better for datacapture in surcigal studies in order to use currently obtained data, as well as to facilitate studies across the DMCGs, and thus the databases. The purpose of the RKKP database is for quality improvement, and use of data for new research. The database can be used as a platform for randomization studies, and retrospective population based registration.
Kim Brixen, Medical Director OUH, gave a talk on “A National Research Center – national studies – the law is difficult – what can we do?”, where he highlighted the importance of GDPR compliance to ensure trust within research, legal acquaintance, and knowing your local lawyers.
The theme of the day was further exploirated through networking, group work within the three clinical focus areas (CFAs; CFA1: Prehabilitation and preoperative risk assessmentpresentations; CFA2: Surgical innovation and technique; and CFA3: Survivorship) presentations from selected ACROBATIC projects, which already have obtained funding from ACROBATIC, and a talk from NI2 leader (methodology), Rune Erichsen, on how to get projects funded.
